Frank Aloysius Noethe

Anton Noethe, was born in 1833 in Recklinghausen Stadt, Westfalen, Preußen, Deutschland. Maria Anna Klostermann, was born in 1841 in Steinfeld, Oldenburg, Germany. Anton Noethe immigrated to the US with his mother, Catherine, step-father (John Bohnenkamp) and his four siblings. Anton's father, Georg, died in Germany. They settled near New Vienna, Iowa and had a total of seven children. Frank Aloysius Noethe was born in 1869.

When he was 23 years old, he moved to western Iowa to a small town called Arcadia in Carroll County in 1892. There he worked at the local creamery. Frank is pictured on the left.

In 1893 he married Kathryn (Kate) Vaske. Kate was born in 1867 in Delaware County, Iowa. They were married (wedding photo below) at Saint Boniface Church in New Vienna, Iowa. The church still stands today. The cemetery there holds the remains of many of our ancestors.

Frank and Kate purchased a small farm in Arcadia. Map below from 1906.

Frank and Kate had a total of seven children:

Francis "Lefty" Noethe 1907–2000

Around 1912 he purchased the current Noethe Farm in Westside, Iowa from the Killeen Family. Frank and Kate continued to live at their homestead in Arcadia. His oldest son, Joe was farming the Westside land in the beginning.

In 1918. The area was ravished by a tornado. The Noethe Homestead in Arcadia was hit hard. See 1918 Tornado History Section.

Kathryn developed Rheumatoid Arthritis. At the time there was no treatment or cure for this horrible condition, and she became bedridden. She succumbed to her suffering at the age 57 in 1924.

Frank continued to live in Arcadia until the time of his death in 1945 at the age of 76. At the time of his death, Ed and John(Hans) purchased the farm from his estate.

Most of the current buildings on the Farm were built during Frank's tenure as owner in 1930 and 1940. The exceptions being: the house (built in 1870) and the barn (built in 1950).
